PMARC (Panel Method – Ames Research Center) is a panel-method aerodynamic analysis code developed at NASA from about 1980 to the late 1990’s, through a sequence of versions culminating in PMARC 14. PMARC 14 has probably never been publically available from the government, but commercial versions of it exist. PMARC 12, on the other hand, is in the public domain (including source code), and has been freely available for years.

MultiSurf 6.9 has features for exporting panel models in either PMARC 12 or PMARC 14 formats.  This document provides step-by-step guidance for the use of MultiSurf for generating PMARC input files.

The example model file Wing3.MS2 has been prepared as a test case; it is referred to frequently below to illustrate various points. Wing3 is a swept tapered wing with symmetric sections, nominally at zero angle of attack. The model has real parameters that control root chord, span, thickness, sweep angle, taper ratio, angle of attack, and wake length. An appendix of this document explains the structure of the Wing3 model.
