SurfaceWorks Ships Version 2.5 and
SurfaceWorks Flattener
December 8, 1999
SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE) December 8, 1999--
SurfaceWorks, a division of AeroHydro, Inc. and provider of SurfaceWorks, a powerful
surface modeling program that extends SolidWorks' (Nasdaq:DASTY) solid modeling
functionality, announces initial shipments of SurfaceWorks 2.5 and SurfaceWorks Flattener.
SurfaceWorks Flattener is available with introductory pricing.
SurfaceWorks 2.5 enhancements include:
-Blend Surface which allows
a user to smoothly blend two surfaces with G1 or G2 tangency.
-Quick Curves extension to SurfaceWorks popular Quick
Points feature.
-Import of Projected Curves and Composite Curves from
SolidWorks: like other geometry imported from SolidWorks, these curves are
bi-directionally associative with SolidWorks geometry.
The new SurfaceWorks Flattener is based on
MSPLEX, a mature surface flattening application integrated with AeroHydro's MultiSurf
application. Also called unwrapping or unfolding, the primary product of flattening is a
2D DXF file of the expanded outline for each individual surface which can be viewed and
edited as SolidWorks 2D drawings.
The unique feature of SurfaceWorks Flatteners patented
flattening technology is that it takes account of the distribution of in-plane strain
required to produce the specified 3D shapes. This enables accurate lofting and NC cutting
of patterns which, through application of a suitable compounding process (e.g. die
pressing, roller planishing, peening, thermal forming, etc.), evolve into curved surfaces
precisely fitting their prescribed positions in 3D.
For details and more information about the introductory
promotional program for SurfaceWorks Flattener, call SurfaceWorks at 207 244 4100 or visit
the website at www.surfaceworks.com.
About SurfaceWorks
Established in 1997, SurfaceWorks is a division of parent
company AeroHydro, Inc. (www.aerohydro.com).
SurfaceWorks leverages AeroHydro's 25 years of innovation in developing CAD software for
the marine industry. The combination of SurfaceWorks' industrial strength surface modeling
with SolidWorks results in an unprecedented value for engineers seeking a mid-priced
industrial design solution. This combination will allow mid-priced modeling solutions to
be used by a much wider audience in a range of industries including industrial design,
consumer goods, automotive, aerospace, and industrial equipment. SurfaceWorks is sold
primarily through SolidWorks' value-added resellers throughout the US, Europe, and Asia.
AeroHydro, Inc. pioneered CAD software for designing ships
and boats more than 20 years ago and they continue to be a leader in the marine design
industry. Its products are based on their patented Relational Geometry engine that
