SurfaceWorks Announces SurfaceWorks 2.0; Latest Release Touts Tighter SolidWorks Look and Feel

SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1999-- SurfaceWorks, a division of AeroHydro, Inc. and provider of SurfaceWorks, a powerful surface modeling program that extends SolidWorks' (Nasdaq:DASTY) solid modeling functionality, announces SurfaceWorks 2.0. The latest version responds to customer requests and offers enhancements that make the software more powerful, easier to use, and adapt more closely to the look and feel of SolidWorks functionality. According to Michael Shook, SurfaceWorks chief operating officer, "SurfaceWorks 2.0 offers users greater design flexibility. The significant array of enhancements allows designers to work more dynamically between SolidWorks and SurfaceWorks to create precise, esthetic models with greater ease-of-use. We believe that SurfaceWorks 2.0 will help manufacturers address rigorous surfacing challenges and create higher quality, more competitive products."

SurfaceWorks 2.0 interface enhancements include:
-- SurfaceWorks users can now work in shaded view. Transparencies for shaded surfaces can be set from 0% to 100% transparency.
-- SurfaceWorks users can utilize SolidWorks edges and planar faces as parents for SurfaceWorks geometry.
-- SurfaceWorks users can obtain SolidWorks-SurfaceWorks export/import information at a glance.
-- Designers can export SurfaceWorks surfaces into standard IGES Nurbs surface entities using B-spline approximations.
-- New graphics cursor displays entity icons align with the SolidWorks look and feel.
-- Unlimited undo capability means there are no limits to SurfaceWorks edits.
-- SurfaceWorks 2.0 provides the option to automatically display parametric orientation marks while an entity is selected.
-- Several toolbar buttons have been updated to SolidWorks look and feel.
-- Data import via IGES has become significantly more robust providing stable transfers from foreign systems.

Entity enhancements:
-- A new, more comprehensive tangent boundary surface includes G2 continuity and multiple controls that allow users to push and pull entities to shape interior surfaces.
-- To facilitate mold cavity design, the ability to apply a draft angle is added.
-- Offset surfaces now reside in SurfaceWorks 2.0. There's no need to switch back and forth between SolidWorks and SurfaceWorks several times.
-- Position X, Y, Z beads/rings using Cartesian coordinate values. Users don't have to use parametrics.
-- When creating trimmed surfaces, simply select curves in each loop in sequential order.
-- Fewer entities and a simpler interface make SurfaceWorks 2.0 easier to use.

In addition, several functions have been rendered obsolete with SurfaceWorks 2.0 including the tangent boundary surfaces and others.
For a complete list of obsolete functions, please contact SurfaceWorks at 207/244-4100 or visit the web site at www.surfaceworks.com.

Customer testimonials
"SurfaceWorks 2.0 offers a lot of functionality that isn't available in many stand alone CAD packages. Complex contours which were not possible before can be created in minutes." Mary Vosse, Sr. Mechanical Designer, JBL Professional
"In the design of a small sounding rocket, I used SurfaceWorks 2.0 to design a tube-wall chamber for the engine. The design called for the transitioning of different profiles along the length of the tubes. I used SurfaceWorks to achieve this task -- something I could not quite
perfect using SolidWorks." Don Parker, Mechanical Design Technician, Space America
"SurfaceWorks 2.0 is certainly helping us create smooth, curved parting line geometry and the sleek, aesthetic surfaces that are required of new devices for the home use diagnostic medical field." Chuck Ray, Designer, TheraSense, Inc.

Product Availability and Pricing
SurfaceWorks 2.0 is immediately available and is priced at $2,995.
